Pure Elegance
When maritime heritage meets the thrill of racing
From 13 to 24 July, the Société Nautique de Genève will host the Swiss and European Championships of the International Six Metre Class. The event features these highly aristocratic and traditionally varnished wooden boats, which have elegantly taken part in the Olympic Games for over a century. In a subtle regulatory twist, the boats are actually not 6 meters long, but closer to 11 m overall. There are two divisions: the Classic, which is for genuine museum pieces, and the Open, for more recently constructed boats. More than 50 participants are expected on the starting line, representing around ten nations.
