Historical bookshops embody the heart and soul of Geneva’s Old Town. Among them, at 20 Grand-Rue — between the cafés, restaurants, art galleries and shops — you’ll find Illibrairie’s old wooden storefront and shelves of beautiful art and travel books, along with art prints, photographs and theatre programmes. There’s also Exemplaire at #25 with a collection of rare books and modern art, and the English bookstore & café, Pages & Sips at #37, which boasts a lovely terrace. Just 200 m away, astride the steps at the Place du Bourg-de-Four, you’ll find Librairie Jullien. Established in 1839, it’s the oldest Genevan shop still in existence, an institution that’s lovingly run today by 5^th generation Jullien family members. Whether you prefer old books or new, you’ll enjoy perusing the store’s beautiful wooden shelves.
