Historical bookshops embody the heart and soul of Geneva’s Old Town. Among them, at 20 Grand-Rue — between the cafés, restaurants, art galleries and shops — you’ll find Illibrairie’s old wooden storefront and shelves of beautiful art and travel books, along with art prints, photographs and theatre programmes. There’s also Exemplaire at #25 with a collection of rare books and modern art, and the English bookstore & café, Pages & Sips at #37, which boasts a lovely terrace. Just 200 m away, astride the steps at the Place du Bourg-de-Four, you’ll find Librairie Jullien. Established in 1839, it’s the oldest Genevan shop still in existence, an institution that’s lovingly run today by 5th generation Jullien family members. Whether you prefer old books or new, you’ll enjoy perusing the store’s beautiful wooden shelves.
