A headline worthy limited-edition watch and a standout opening celebration are set to ignite the festival’s 79th edition this August.

Swatch is thrilled to once again serve as the main partner of the Locarno Film Festival, one of the world’s most iconic celebrations of cinema, running from August 5 to 15 2026. It’s a partnership that reflects the brand’s longstanding love for film, creativity, and storytelling, and this year it will bring even more excitement and festival-ready energy to the mix!

In keeping with tradition, Swatch is marking the occasion with a special, limited-edition watch, LOCARNO79 PAY, inspired by the leopard theme that has defined the festival since the very beginning. The NEW GENT model channels the festival’s wild spirit with its sleek sun-brushed black dial, vibrant yellow accents, and faux-leopard-fur leather strap complete with a leather loop featuring the festival name. With Swatch Pay built in, LOCARNO79 PAY let’s wearers make secure contactless payments right from their wrist, adding effortless convenience from the red carpet to the afterparties and everywhere in between.

For the 79th edition of Locarno, Swatch steps into the spotlight to lead the festival’s official opening party on August 5 with an experience only it can deliver. At the event, Precarious Pangolins, a creation by Sam Wilde, an artist‑in‑residence at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in 2026 will be on display and remain there throughout the festival for everyone to enjoy. The unique video installation captures pangolins weaving through a jungle‑like realm, slipping from sight almost as if teasing the Pardo leopard. It’s a playful scene that ultimately reveals a surprisingly thought‑provoking message at its core.

In true Hollywood style, a fleet of specially curated vehicles will be on hand to transport festivalgoers to and from the event. Designed to echo the opening party’s theme, the vehicles, located just steps from the main train station, will be available throughout Locarno’s eleven‑day program, adding a touch of cinematic magic.

In support of auteur cinema, Swatch will continue its tradition of presenting a talented filmmaker with the Swatch First Feature Award, valued at CHF 15,000. Awarded by an international jury, this honor celebrates the most striking debut, championing bold ideas, fresh voices and fearless creativity.

LOCARNO79 PAY will be available online and in selected stores worldwide from July 9, 2026.
