Unveiling Crans-Montana’s secrets
A discerning look at the origins of a landmark in alpine tourism
In 2009, Dr. Sylvie Doriot Galofaro was given six historic photo albums by Dr. Stephani, who built the high plateau’s very first health resort. Dr. Doriot Galofaro — an art historian and author — connected the dots between the photos and her research in a book that traces the storied rise of the ski resort: Une histoire culturelle de Crans-Montana (1896-2016). The helvet team (gratefully!) relied on her work when writing our winter article “Crans-Montana, or the taste of high altitude”. Dr. Doriot Galofaro is also the main writer of Un siècle de tourisme à Crans-Montana, a collaborative book that also explores the area’s history, available through Éditions Porte-Plumes.
