An iconic Upper Valais climb combining sporting challenge and conviviality
Since its founding in 1982, the Susten-Leukerbad Mountain Race has grown from a niche sporting event into a much-loved Upper Valais tradition. Held this year on 14 June, the hill climb race between La Souste (Susten) and Leukerbad is a welcoming, much-loved course that’s as simple as it is relentless. There’s 25.6 km and 850 m of elevation gain to overcome as you bike between the two villages on a road that offers little respite. But there’s good news for tired (or small) legs: electric bikes are allowed and shorter route variations are also offered for younger participants. Registration costs just CHF 20 (CHF 10 for those under 15).
